so, i wonder if anyone else has noticed that the western option for this light rail runs right down Theo wirth parkway (and park) and would destroy a valuble bike path and part of the grand rounds that just won our city #1 bike friendly city...

Oh, please. Apple's Fifth Avenue store? That's beautiful architecture. But this store on Hennepin Avenue--are you kidding me? Sure, if you dig the "Ridgedale, without the roof" aesthetic, it's perhaps "beautiful". I'm not saying FirstTech (or the former Uptown Bar, for that matter) is some landmark of unique and inspiring American architecture, but a cookie-cutter Apple Store isn't really beautifying Uptown in any way.

So, how soon before we get an Abercrombie & Fitch across the street?

Older crowd? Take a look at most college campuses and you can shoot that study down easily. Also, 9 out of 10 computers sold over $1K are Macs, so Apple owns the premium market. And finally, for TCO, look at support, quality and ease of use and Apple has the consistent advantage. And when it's time to replace machines, look at what a 3-year-old Mac gets on Craigslist or eBay compared to that similarly aged Dell. No contest.

"Stigma of 55+" user base? You're quoting a highly-contested, 4 year old article? That's the best you can do? Screams desperation.

Just go to Butter Café, or any other coffee shop within 5 miles of Uptown, and you'll see a place littered with 20-somethings with MacBooks, MacBook Pro's, iPads, and iPhones.

I will say, though, that for all the money First Tech is making, you'd think their store could be even 10% as beautiful as the Apple store.

Oh, the PC bias of this article. Apple's total cost of ownership is less for all of their products. Quality counts and the young are increasingly realizing this. And of course the unified Mac OS X and iOS will increasingly show the Apple advantages throughout their product lines.

PCs' value plummet the moment it is owned and when they crashed its owner better be a geek otherwise getting it back to life will be a monumental task but not a Mac.

What smugness? it is the joy of serving the customers.

As long as they stay open as an Apple-Authorized service center, I'll keep going to FirstTech. There, I don't have to deal with the insulting smugness of "Genius" Bar employees, who weren't even alive when I started using Macs.

Oh, no. The smugness is spreading.
