James Burpee has been painting the northern landscapes and teaching in the Minnesota Arts Community for the last 40 years. This is the second annual exhibition of his work at Gallery13 and this exhibition will contain a complete and new selection of works created over the last year to be shown in combination with selected works from Gallery13 archives. The title of the exhibition was selected to describe the way in which Burpee applies color to memory. Jim Burpee’s paintings are Illuminations of experiences. Transformation is really what takes place, initially, in the mind of the artist whose emotional experience transforms into an empathic connection to place and time that becomes illumination.
