When Kate Iverson describes a band as “sexy downtempo” I have to take notice.   When she’s not in the fashion realm, the Secrets of the City Editor is often in a stylish music scene of her own.  After listening to local trio Athletes in Slacks, I have to agree.  Synth box beat pop binds nicely with loungy guitar riffs.  Their style is reminiscent of infectious English group Hot Chip but with louder passionate vocals.  The trio, composed of Jason McLaughlin, Brian Silver, and Colin Silver performs at the newly renovated 400 Bar headlined by bluesy Englishwoman Peggy Sue and Brooklyn gospel-garage rockers She Keeps Bees.
