New Music: May Day Edition
Congratulations to us, we May-d it. The sun is getting higher. It’s super green everywhere. All the buzz bands are touring. Speaking of which, you should totally catch Harlem w/ Teenage Moods and Voytek at the 7th Street Entry this coming Tuesday (May 4, 8PM, 8$).
These Ohioan dudes, Emeralds, have released 2.5 EPs that were filled with excellent, progressive drone tracks. Their full length finds them exploring a more melodic sound that flashes signs of some pop potential. Similar to Ducktails, the Ems go well with hangover sundaes in the park.
A couple years ago I was in at the Bedford stop in Brooklyn waiting for the L and this shabby hipster runaway kid was trying to earn money by covering Neutral Milk Hotel and all I could think was “Man, this is so lame…fucking Brooklyn!” This Seamonster track from their Two Birds EP takes that dude’s money, breaks his guitar, and says “Go home.”
Arthur Baker brings his signature riot gear production to Cold Cave’s single, Life Magazine…which you may have heard in, of all places, Forever 21 [Apparently they aren't familiar with Cremations]
