Solid Gold’s “Matter of Time” Video Debut on MTV2 & MTVU

Ok, so maybe you can’t actually go to this one, but it should be on your radar nonetheless. Today from their brilliant minds to your television see fave local electro rockers, the Solid Gold boys, in a fancy music video debut for the uber delicious single “Matter of Time.” Hopefully, you’ve already set the Tivos (or VCRs even) to MTV2 and MTVU – yes, that is a real channel – to be the first to lay eyes on the tasty video action. Knowing the homeboys, the video should be a mix of eclectic weirdness, sexy charm and neon colors. Sounds hot!

Dada Trash Collage + Ghost in the Water @ Sauce

Head over to Uptown’s sound lounge, Sauce, tonight for a mix of electro sound and beats of epic proportions. Recently nominated as one of the Twin Cities “best new bands” for Vita.mn’s latest contest, “Are You Local?,” Dada Trash Collage rocks an experimental mix of indie rock – heavy on the percussion and tribal-esque accoutrement. The duo has worked their sound into the chambers of our hearts and even caught the attention of Arcade Fire and Animal Collective producer, Scott Colburn, who produced their new four track EP Rain War! With live sets from locals catchy electronica pop beatmakers, Ghost in the Water and IDM-ers, The New Monarchs.

Phantogram + CLAPS @ the Entry

This show from NY’s street beat, psych pop band, Phantogram, has long been on my “can’t wait” calendar. Under Barsuk Records – the label home to Death Cab, Mates of State and Rilo Kiley – the band’s 2010 LP release Eyelid Movies features an adventurous mix of minimal dreampop in “When I’m Small” – reminiscent of the Sneaker Pimps – to the sample-ridden, Detroit hip-hop beats of “Futuristic Casket” and “Running from the Cops”. Girl/boy duo Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter are known to record their synth-fueled tracks in Harmony Lodge – a barn 45 minutes away from upstate Saratoga Springs – which might explain their homemade style of organic and electronic loops, stringed instruments and natural beat-driven soul. Radio K presents with guests St. Paul’s minimal-synth trio, CLAPS and tropical samplers, Junk Culture.

Godard’s Contempt @ the Trylon

Contempt never looked as pretty as it did through the beautiful brooding eyes of commercial star, Brigitte Bardot. Godard’s attempt at big-budget filmmaking came as quite a surprise to fans of his previous radical works like Breathless, and his cast choices – i.e. casting Brigitte Bardot as lead actress – confused film critics even more. Was Godard going conventional? Not a chance. What emerged from the director was a sexy New Wave depiction of the perversity of desire, martial breakdown and the subversive conflict of fidelity, all set to Piero Piccioni’s light jazz musical score with a series of color-lens shots of the gorgeous Bardot and her naked backside. Co-starring Jack Palance, Fritz Lang and Michel Piccoli, the film parallels Godard’s personal clash of artistic expression and commercial obligations. Presented by Alliance Française and the Cinema Revolution Society, the third film in the Trylon’s series celebrating the founding father of “nouvelle vague,” Jean-Luc Godard, screens in beautifully restored 35-mm on the Trylon’s 20 ft. screen – a must for any Godard lover! Might I suggest listening to Brigitte Bardot’s “Ne Me Laisse Pas l’Aimer” in preparation?
