“History of Hip” and Yesterday’s Tomorrows @ the Clown Lounge
Oh, 80′s movies. Bless their little overly ambitious hearts. When it came to visions of the future predictions were eager, to say the least. Why, Back to the Future II alone had the year 2015 self-drying its jackets, hover-boarding across lakes and driving to work via entire highway systems in the sky. Disney’s “Tomorrow Land” park foresights along with science fiction mediums “high hopes” for the future ranged from the hilarious to downright frightening, and still have some of us worried that our memories have been secretly “Rekalled,” or that one day we will be murdered by our smart kitchen. Tonight, join Minnesota History Center’s “History of Hip” historian Brian Horrigan and blogger Matt Novak (Paleo Future) as they peer into yesteryear’s zany futuristic predictions, highlighting some of their favorite trends of culture and sci-fi past while making a few personal predictions of their own. Grab a drink from the Clown Lounge bar and settle in for some futuristic convos.

Triple Double 2 Year Anniversary @ the Triple Rock
Can you believe that Triple Double has been getting us all sauced up with cheap drinks and all worked up with great tunes for two full years now?! That’s 103 Tuesdays of mayhem and dancing. Tonight, get down to the Triple Rock and show your appreciation as resident DJs Wezz and Mike 2600 celebrate the two year anni of Triple Double. Raise a glass – hell, double-fist it and raise two glasses! – and boogie down to tasty hip-hop, funk, post-punk and 80′s tracks. Featuring a killer roster of DJs: Mike 2600, WzzWnshp, Get Cryphy’s Jimmy2Times & Plain Ole Bill (who coincidentally, are celebrating an anniversary of their own this Friday at First Ave’s VIP Room), Rambo Salina, TRL, BOMP’s Shannon Blowtorch, King Otto, Street Sound and Attitude City’s Jeff Dubois and 717 Boys. 2-4-1 beers, $0 cover and late-night dancing; sounds like a recipe for Tuesday night success.

SHOOP! – A Weekly Dance Party @ Bar Abilene
Ok, ok. I know. Minneapolis needs another dance night like Tina Turner needs another hero, but in their defense Uptown’s selection of danceteria evenings are a bit lacking. Here to fix that nasty dilemma is hosts I am Break, He is the Beat – party magistrates of The Original Truth Squad. In an attempt to excite a new clientèle, Bar Abilene welcomes a few local DJs – aka the best of the best – for an evening of ½ priced cocktails until midnight and head-spinning remixes from some of the scene’s most memorable DJs. Tonight’s music soirée features tracks from Wants Vs. Needs affiliate DJ So Gold, raging his fab tunes and remixes before he heads to the SXSW head quarters. Future DJ guests include TML’s Sovietpanda, Monsterbrusten featuring Josie Niemann of TenderCakes and Molly Kroeten, and DJ Anton of Wants Vs. Needs. Shoop-shoop-a-doop!

l’étoile Field Trip #2
The lovely ladies of l’étoile are going on a little field trip this Friday and lo and behold you’re invited. Much like the field trips you took in grade school, I can guarantee this event will be the highlight of your week. Their second art soirée/coterie outing (i.e. l’étoile Field Trip #2), promises to be another delicious double-header evening with stops at the Weisman Art Museum and the 501 Club. The night kicks off at the Weisman for an intimate exploration of the latest exhibit “Common Sense: Art and the Quotidian” which features sculpture, art, video installation, paintings and more from artists Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys and a few locals. Then, grab a buddy and head over to the 501 for the l’étoile co-sponsored event “Vigilante Justice” to peep local art from Garrett Perry, Jesse Draxler, John Alspach – to name just a few – and groove to live sets from Phantom Tails, Dada Trash Collage and Hunting Club. Plus, enter the evening’s raffle to win grab bags with tons of great swag from ROBOTlove, Society6.com, art zine, The Throw Up and more. Knowing l’étoile and their penchant for mixing business with pleasure, expect hobnobbing with interesting local peeps, lavish shenanigans, not to mention surprises – and cocktails – around every art cached corner. Meet at the front door of the Weisman from 7 to 7:15, grab a name tag and get ready!

Gimme Shelter: A Benefit for Haiti @ First Ave
Benefits for Haiti have been popping up left and right recently. So what makes this one my fave? It’s for a good cause and you can dance to it, of course! City Pages, Gimme Noise and First Ave have joined generous forces with 89.3 The Current and Radio K to present tonight’s smashing concert featuring Mark Mallman, Solid Gold, Zoo Animal, and Peter Wolf Crier with DJ sets from Jimmy2Times and Mike 2600 in between the bands. Hosted by City Page’s Andrea Swensson and Jen Boyles, the event is part rock show, part art marketplace where you can shop inexpensive local art from artists CHUCK U, Anthem Heart, BRLSQ and more! All proceeds will be split between the Red Cross Haiti Relief & Development Fund and Architecture for Humanity – two fantastic organizations who have been rallying relief funds, time and energy to help the people of Haiti cope with the aftermath of a devastating disaster. So head down, rock out and make a difference!
