Sufjan Stevens Comes into Town
It’s officially MNFashion Week! No, it’s not quite as earth-shaking as NY Fashion Week may be, but never the less, some incredible opportunities to admire fashion trends will swing through Minneapolis until this coming Sunday. Last Friday I attended the “La Nouvelle Femme” at the Varsity Theatre in Dinkytown. The event, themed “Wanderlust”, was a mash-up of a rather small fashion show, concert, photography, and local art. With the old and elegant aesthetic of the Varsity Theatre and the spread of various art forms on-site, the evening was a great kick-off for MFW.
“New Pictures” is the latest photography to hit the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts, launched this past Friday. New Pictures first featured photog is Noriko Furunishi whose photos
“were taken from the western United States on a 4X 5 film camera. Using post production software, Furunishi then took multiple images and often changed the orientation of one or more of the images and fused them together into one photo.” The exhibit’s focal goal is to promote emerging photographers to the Twin Cities.

This coming Sunday, Sufjan Stevens is coming out to the 400 Bar. The show sold out almost immediately as Stevens seldomly comes to the area, but primarily, his voice and melodies have a uniquely profound effect on the listener. His lyrics, that are heavily-weighted with religious overtones do not play into the stereotype as he has built an enormous following over the years. If you are desperate hoping to get to the sold out show, keep checking Craigs List for a ticket or two to pop up (at a hefty price.)
