Homodomestic-ated
It’s LGBT! It’s art! It’s LGBT art! Photography to be precise. The newly opened Conduit Gallery presents a very intriguing and quietly provocative look into the lives of seemingly ordinary Minnesotans.
Homodomestic is the first exhibition by Conduit Gallery, and features the photography and text work of Chad Houle. Homodomestic explores the leading edge of acceptance of a marginalized group in society by presenting same-sex male relationships in one of the most intimate of personal spaces, the home. Now through November 12, 2009.
“As a gay man, I grew up without any real gay examples of love. I never was able to make the connection between being gay and the ability to be in a strong, lasting, relationship. Now, in a long term committed relationship, I look back not knowing who I was or how there were so few images of that life I so greatly yearned for. My work is a manner of creating a barrage of examples of gay normaility in love and life to infuse the world with what I never saw at a critical point in my life. With this new “homo-domesticity” the home plays an important element as a symbol for stability and commitment. While my images may glorify these men, they don’t claim false romantic perfection, but instead command respect.” – Chad Houle
