Fall Fashion Previews
The “W Hotel” welcomed a preemptive fashion show to the upcoming MNFashion Week (September 21-27) at their “Fall Meets Fashion” Show. On September 3rd, music, fashion, and cocktails merged in the Foshay Tower’s “Living Room” to preview what is going to be hottest in Fall 09. Stylist Jahna Peloquin and make-up artist Rocco Altobelli articulated the show as they provided their esteemed knowledge of fashion and make-up. Look for more regarding the MNFashion Week in upcoming recaps.

Sophomore albums can often be the end-all for musicians who are in such an eager rush to keep their debut album fame alive, but A Fine Frenzy’s “Bomb in a Birdcage” beautifully illustrates what a little time, thought, and “gorgeous, captivating pop surprise full of lush instrumentation” can produce. This isn’t just another one of those “oh-so-moving” Grey’s Anatomy background discs; it is “upbeat and sweetly simple” and offers “seductive pipes and melodies that make you welcome the approaching chill in the air.” With a few listens, I’ve been hooked. This sophomore isn’t only charming, but it beats the debut.

Have you ever gone out for a drink at St. Anthony Main and wondered what the deteriating building (don’t judge a book by its’ cover) known as the Soap Factory is? The space doesn’t actually produce bulk amounts of soap, but is a rentable space for showcases and events. On September 11, the annual “$99 Sale” took place. The sale offered artwork from over 200 artists, anyone from Alec Soth to Tom Rose. The fundraiser benefits the future of the Soap Factory as all the proceeds go to make the Factory a more exciting, usable space in the future.
