Late Summer Art Crawl
As August rolls along, several art events have come through the Cities that continue to reinvent the methods of artistic expression. The Twin Cities Art Scene blog recently highlighted a few of these.
“The Default Project” took place at ART OF THIS GALLERY. The Default Project is the performance of multiple disciplines displaying the unique relationship that occurs between commerce and art. The show is performed by the Lungless Ladies. The purpose is to artistically alert the viewers of the economic crisis in an unconventional manner.
“Synchronocity” is underway and will continue until September 26 at the Mill District Arts Gallery. The artist, Tim Schweitzer, has created an exhibit that is constructed of metals and woods that have sparked Schweitzer’s interest at some point. Schweitzer said that all of the pieces used to assemble his work were initially used for math, engineering, and music in some manner. For the opportunity to see mathematics and art collide, pay Schweitzer’s vision a visit.
Rogue Buddha Gallery is currently featuring “The Beautifully Grotesque.” As the name describes, the exhibit done by artist Sylvia Ortiz illustrates the modern objectification of women “through vibrant colors, dynamic lines and disfigured female forms.” The gallery is striking and leaves the viewer well aware of the artist’s thought-provoking aim. Ortiz said, “The Beautifully Grotesque explores the many ways to visually describe what many women endure emotionally, physically, spiritually and the social standards that have been set for them.”
