Fourth of July Scene 2009
A distant relative of TwinCityScene is attending the CONvergence Convention at the Sheraton in Bloomington this weekend. According to her its a four day nerd fest mostly with older people. But if many barely legal drinking age participants such as her participate, maybe it won’t be so nostalgic. The $70 a pop is worth it to her which is probably why she was all giddy when l’etoile recommended the event.
FRIDAY
Parle vouz l’etoile! They also support ‘zines as we do we! Except l’etoile is a real ‘zine… kind of. Kate tells us one day they will re-enter the foray. Anyway, zine release party! Friday July 3, 10pm at the 7th Street. Think psychadelic with Magic Castles, Dark Dark Dark, Hurray for the Riff Raff (New Orleans) and Paul Metzger.
HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE FOURTH FIREWORKS
Hipster sunglasses (for fireworks)
Sneakers (sandals will be stepped upon)
Find a spot way ahead of time (because pushing through crowds is so unclassy)
SATURDAY JULY FOURTH
The hipster route through July 4 is a difficult one because its split between the two cities.
The Decider details that either you must love Elvis Costello at the Taste in Saint Paul or are a loyal Minneapolitan for the Saint Anthony Falls fireworks.
The Ten Second Film Fest at Soap Factory starts right after the fireworks. Crazy Costello or freakin’ awesome 10 second blips by our talented filmmakers.
And after that, if your brain hasn’t fried and your ears are intact is the famous Dillinger Four(th) of July at the Triple Rock.
SUNDAY
While Minneapolitans BBQ, Saint Paulites get a treat from, *flashback*, No Doubt! Saint Paul Staycation likens the show for potential Gwen Stefani outfits but we think hearing opening bands Paramore and Bedouin Soundclash will be the winner. A little old ska, a little new punk.
