Friday! Acoustic music, green roofs, imploding bridges

It’s always comforting to land on the L’etoile weekly update. Kate and her grrls have a way of filtering City Pages’ barfy calendar explosion into a few recommended gigs. From her list for Friday, it’s chill versus groove.

- HowWasTheShow.com celebrates its 7th year anniversary. That’s right, even before most of you graduated high school, there was the music nerd website for all music nerds. Our favorite for this show is no doubt Aby Wolf. First, she rocks acoustic, and second she collab’d with Omaur Bliss. Mixing her crystal cool voice with hip hop is a sign of genius. See a video performance at HWWTS.

- On the flip side is some serious hipster action with the Attitude City DJs. They’re another one of Club Jaeger’s regulars up on Washington. “Street Sounds” starts 10pm, First Ave. AC says:

Now wait a minute, y’all — This dance ain’t for everybody — Only the sexy people — So all you fly mothers, get on out there and dance — Dance, I said!

Apparently Icelanders are flocking to Minneapolis! Maybe. Chris DeLine’s Gimme Noise says Jóhann Jóhannsson is coming to the Southern Theater on June 30. Of course you should know we are Icelandic experts here and TCS follows the Reykjavik Grapevine loyally. Jó Jó is that buttery sound of strings, electronic and Engrish we come to love from Sigur Rós, only less frenetic. And DeLine finds that MTV2 haz our very own Tapes ‘n Tapes on video. MTV pop culture checking in on Mpls? Refreshing!

So, yesterday, the newserati were all up in a tail spin about several things. Like for example, that Target Center roof, well those roofing workers went on strike Thursday for unsafe conditions, pay, etc. The thing cost $5.2 million, I wonder if that includes labor or lattes. Many should recall much drama over this to begin with. Jay Weiner of Minnpost got in a little heat for pre-judging too few facts. Our own Steven Pease covered the timeline for Downtown Journal, noting that CPED hated it and that we were suppose to have it built last year.

Old news now, but the Lowry Bridge is going BOOM! (Pretty picture at MPR). We’ve been told Nordeasters want it gone for good, something about crime being down or what not. Brian Lambert of Daily Glean thinks its a pretty bridge, more so than the St. Anthony Falls Bridge (for those suburbanites, I-35W Mississippi River Bridge). June 21, bring your cameras! (City official in the MPR article doesn’t realize the hordes of people that will be watching).

In a one of those “oh no!” but “actually, uhhh” stories, the City of Minneapolis is annoyed they aren’t collecting as much newspaper recycling. Chris Steller of Minnesota Independent says the City earns top dollar on sorted recycling. Steller had the heart to point out Southeast’s new Bridgeland news site–the remains of their now defunct paper version The Bridge. Minneapolitans should wait before trying to find alternatives to throw out though. One commenter says:

Congratulations to the residents of Minneapolis! We’ve been able to decrease the amount of deforestation needed to convey the news! – DavidD
