5 Questions: B Mc-C

Recently, I had the pleasure of speaking with Brandon McCollum aka B Mc-C, the producer/emcee double threat whose album “Mr. Nice Guy” is set to hit this Saturday. Take a look as we peer into the mind of B Mc-C.

1. Who are you?
B Mc-C A.K.A Brandon McCollum. I run a production duo with my buddy Kevin called Bam Bam Beatz and I also make my own rap tunes as well.

2. Favorite cut off “Mr. Nice Guy”?
I would have to say Brain Storm. It’s a song that I can listen to over and over again and not get sick of. The feeling that I get when listening to it is the type of feeling I get when listening to certain hip hop classics.

3. Thoughts on the Twin Cities Hip-Hop scene?
I love the Twin Cities hip-hop scene. There are so many talented people who put out good music and put on a great live show. My only problem is that I sometimes feel there needs to be more unity. It seems like sometimes the conscious rappers only listen to and support other conscious rappers and the gangster rappers only listen to gangster rap. I am a fan of hip hop in general. If it’s done well then I’ll support it. I will go to a Ecid show and then the next night go to a Sandman show. I feel like I want to see more diversity of sounds when I go to shows but I know it can’t always work that way.

4. How did you come up with the title “Mr. Nice Guy” for the album?
I feel it’s kind of self explanitory if you know me or listen to the album. At first I wanted to call it “The Dreamer” (which I will probably save for my next album so don’t steal that title..ha ha) but as I got deeper into writing it I noticed a theme which basically depicts me in the way that I am…a really nice person. I’m way too nice to the ladies, I don’t have much love for assholes, and I’m basically just a really chill dude. I thought it just kind of fit naturally.

5. What do you want people to take away from this record?
I kind of want people to look at themselves and try to be a nicer person. I want the people that I am poking fun at to be offended but at the same time realize I have a point in what I’m trying to say. Be nice to the good guys cause they just might be the one who your girlfriend leaves you for.

B Mc-C will be holding his release party at Trocaderos with C.A.S.E, Parallax, J. Gatz, and modernsextrash on Saturday, June 27th. Tickets are $8 and carries an age restriction of 18+. Show starts at 9pm. EDIT: Trocadero’s has shut down and the release party has been cancelled. More news as it develops.
