Alright, I’m going to start off by admitting that this was actually my first time to the 7th Street Entry. I know, I should be dragged out into the street and be shot like the scenester heathen I am. I’ll go to confession or something. Moving on… It was a historic day Tuesday. With the swearing in of Barack Hussein Obama came a new wave of seemingly ubiquitous hope, faith, and general goodwill towards one’s fellow man. Not to mention it gave us all a reason to drink on a Tuesday night. Oh yes, we can.

As part of the nationwide celebration, the guys (and girl) from A Night in the Box hosted an inauguration concert at the Entry with native African emcee M.anifest, who opened the evening with a rousing chorus of “Yes we did!”

This guy put on a hell of set. He even did a song written especially for the new POA. That’s president of the United States, by the way. M.anifest also donned a traditional dashiki, which was rather fitting for the circumstances.

A Night in the Box continued the festivities with their brand of back home Appalachian folk music. They tore the roof of the place and left everyone stomping their feet. The thing about these guys that sets them apart from other bands is that they not only play great music, but are phenomenal on stage as well. Just watching frontman Travis Hetman thrash all over while pumping out his crunchy banjo licks was enough to make me exhausted.
It was a hell of a night in the box they call the 7th Street Entry. I didn’t even vote for Obama, but I felt the tides of change sweeping up in me. Or maybe that was just all the beer… Either way, at least Bush is out.

A Night in the Box will be performing at the Acadia Café tonight (Friday). They will also be at a personal favorite venue, the Kitty Kat Club, next Friday (Jan 30).
